Avoriaz is one of the easiest big French resorts to reach from Geneva, but it is car free, so every transfer ends in one of two places: the resort entrance at 1,800 metres, or Les Prodains in the valley below, where a cable car takes you up. This guide compares every way of getting there, with indicative costs and times, and explains which drop off point suits you.
The short version
- Distance: about 85 to 95 km from Geneva airport, depending on whether you stop at Les Prodains or go up to the resort. Allow about 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes by road in normal traffic.
- Cheapest easy option: a shared transfer to Les Prodains, then the 4 minute cable car up.
- Easiest with young children or lots of luggage: a private transfer to the resort entrance.
- Saturdays in the school holidays: allow a lot longer, whichever option you choose.
Your transfer options compared
| Option | Indicative cost | Approximate journey | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared transfer to Les Prodains | From about €33 to €45 per person | 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours, plus the cable car | Couples and small groups on a budget |
| Shared transfer to the resort entrance | About €45 to €70 per person | 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours or more | Groups who want to avoid the cable car |
| Private transfer | About €280 to €335 per vehicle | About 1 hour 40 minutes | Families, late arrivals, lots of luggage |
| Hire car | Varies | About 1 hour 30 minutes | Families who want flexibility in the valley |
| Scheduled bus | Varies | Longer, with fixed times | Solo travellers and flexible plans |
Costs and times are indicative only, taken from the SeeAvoriaz transfer guide (correct as at September 2026). They are not live quotes, so always check the current price when you book.

Les Prodains or the resort entrance?
This is the decision that shapes your whole transfer.
Arriving via Les Prodains
Les Prodains is at the bottom of the mountain, on the Morzine side. The Prodains Express cable car takes about four minutes to reach the centre of Avoriaz. According to the official Avoriaz website, winter 2026/27 fares for foot passengers are €9 one way or €14.50 return for an adult, and €6.50 one way for a child. It runs from 11 December 2026 to 18 April 2027, from 7am until 9pm Monday to Thursday, midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 10pm on Sundays, with a short break between 7.30pm and 8pm.
The big advantage is time and money. Your transfer avoids the last winding stretch of road up to the resort, and shared transfers to Les Prodains are usually cheaper. On some of our own trips, we have been dropped at Les Prodains and taken the cable car up, rather than staying on the coach for the final climb.
Skiers with a Portes du Soleil lift pass can use the cable car as part of the lift system; see our lift pass guide. The catch is luggage. You will be carrying bags onto the cable car and then across the resort to your apartment, so it suits light packers better than families with ski bags and young children.
Arriving at the resort entrance
Transfers that go all the way up finish at the resort reception area at the entrance to Avoriaz. From there, the resort has luggage sledges and snow vehicles to help you reach your accommodation, and horse drawn sleighs operate as taxis, although availability varies, so check before you rely on one. It is the better choice for late arrivals, families with small children and anyone with a lot of kit.

Shared transfers
Shared transfers run from Geneva airport to Les Prodains or to the resort, timed around flights. They are usually the cheapest door to door option for two or three people. Expect to wait for other passengers at the airport and for a few drop offs on the way, especially on Saturdays. Check the company’s policy on delayed flights before you book.
Private transfers
A private transfer meets you in arrivals and takes you straight to your chosen drop off point. Split between four or more people, it can cost little more per person than a shared transfer, and it saves the waiting. For a family with children, ski bags and a late flight, it is often worth it.
Transfer companies compared
What each company says on its own website about drop off points, children, luggage and delays (checked October 2026). Policies change, so read the terms for your booking.
| Company | Where it drops you | Type | Children and luggage | Delays and cancelling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SunTransfers | Parking du Plateau, at the resort entrance | Private car (up to 4) or minivan (up to 8) on this route | Child seats on request; extra luggage and sports equipment space as extras | Tracks your flight; free changes and cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup |
| Alps2Alps | Check your booking: Les Prodains or the resort | Shared or private | Child and booster seats free on request; infant seats on special request. Shared: one bag and one ski bag each | Shared passengers may wait up to 1.5 hours after landing; drivers may charge €100 an hour after a 60 minute delay. Free cancellation up to 24 hours (72 hours on the first three Saturdays in February) |
| SAT Léman bus | Bottom of the Prodains Express or the resort reception | Scheduled bus | Bus companies do not usually provide child seats | Fixed timetable; book ahead for school holiday weekends |
| Altibus bus | Avoriaz 1800 (check the stop when you book) | Scheduled bus | As above | Fixed timetable |
Landing late?
The Prodains Express runs for foot passengers until 9pm Monday to Thursday, midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 10pm on Sundays, with a break from 7.30pm to 8pm (winter 2026/27, official Avoriaz website). If your flight lands in the evening, a transfer that goes all the way to the resort entrance avoids relying on the cable car.
Comparing prices fairly
- Quote the same date, flight time, number of people and number of ski bags with every company.
- Check whether the price is one way or return, and per person or per vehicle.
- Check the drop off point: a cheaper price to Les Prodains means a cable car fare and carrying your luggage.

Buses from Geneva
According to the official Avoriaz access page, three companies run buses from Geneva:
- Altibus: from Geneva airport and Geneva, Cluses and Thonon stations to Avoriaz.
- SAT Léman: from Geneva airport and the same stations, either to the bottom of the Prodains Express or to the resort reception.
- Swiss Tour: several times a day from Geneva airport and Geneva station.
Buses run to fixed timetables that change through the season, so check times and book in advance for school holiday weekends.
Hiring a car
A hire car gives you freedom for supermarket trips and days out in the valley, but remember that you cannot drive into Avoriaz itself. You park at the resort entrance or at Les Prodains for the whole week.
- Covered parking at the resort entrance can be booked in advance and is recommended in busy weeks. The main outdoor car park cannot be reserved.
- Les Prodains has an outdoor car park with 540 spaces. The official Avoriaz car parks page lists the winter long stay rate as €182 for seven days.
- Winter tyres or snow chains are required in French mountain areas in winter. Our guide to getting to the French Alps explains the rules.
- Geneva airport has French and Swiss sides. Check where you are collecting the car and whether winter equipment is included.

Saturdays and school holidays
Most UK families travel on a Saturday in February half term, at the same time as thousands of other skiers. Airport queues, traffic in the valley and waiting for other passengers on shared transfers all add time. Book your transfer as soon as your flights are confirmed, allow extra time for your return journey to the airport, and keep snacks and something to do for the children.
